Georgie Donnelly

Abstract painter.
Art educator.

“Donnelly – who achieves a light, blurring effect through use of large brushes, her fingers, palette knives and, occasionally, paint rollers – deals in images of what she calls “half-remembered places”. She’ll act as guide for part of the way there, but we’ll have to complete the trip ourselves.”

A world in full colour. When the camera claimed precision, painting found poetry. Georgie Donnelly paints what memory remembers—not what the lens dictates.

While photography may capture detail, it cannot evoke the sensation of wind against the skin or the hush of a distant city at twilight. Donnelly’s work invites the viewer to step into ambiguity, to journey through suggestion rather than certainty. A bridge may appear familiar—San Francisco’s Golden Gate, perhaps? Or Lisbon’s Ponte 25 de Abril? But like places remembered in dreams, her scenes are shaped as much by emotion as by geography. In a world entranced by clarity, Donnelly paints the beauty of the blurred edge.
